Our Mission
The mission of the Rattlesnake Creek Watershed Group is twofold:
To protect, preserve, and restore the Rattlesnake Creek watershed through community outreach, education, science, and stewardship
To promote and foster appreciation and respect for the unique qualities of the Rattlesnake Creek watershed for Rattlesnake residents and for the broader Missoula community
Where is the Rattlesnake Creek Watershed?
The Rattlesnake Creek Watershed is the area of land northeast of Missoula, Montana that drains all streams and precipitation to the mouth of Rattlesnake Creek at the Clark Fork River. It extends up from the mainstem of Rattlesnake Creek to the divides with adjacent watersheds. Our geographic focus includes the entire watershed, from ridgetops to the mouth of the creek.

Trail Closures
Winter is here, and that means some local trails will be closed.
Dogs are prohibited from December 1 through the end of February in the Rattlesnake drainage, through May 15 in Spring Gulch, and yearlong in Sawmill and Curry Gulches.
Most of Mount Jumbo is closed to all recreational use during winter to protectwintering elk, deer, and other wildlife.
Jumbo’s North Zone, including areas north of the Saddle Road, is closed from December 1 to May 1 or later.
Jumbo’s South Zone, south of the Saddle Road, is closed from December 1 to March 15 or later.
The “L” and I-90 trails on Jumbo remain open all year, but dogs must be leashed during the winter closures.

Rattlesnake Stories: The Mount Jumbo Elk Herd
Jeff Gicklhorn, City Conservation Lands Manager, will report on the elk population, their management and monitoring, and considerations in the seasonal closure dates. Join us to learn more about Mt. Jumbo’s iconic elk herd!
Missoula Public Library Cooper Rooms/4th floor 2:00 pm-3:30 pm.
These presentations will be recorded by Missoula Community Access Television as part of a Media Assistance Grant donated by MCAT.
